Chain: photo to 3D CAD, gold weight and price
Chains are priced by weight, and weight depends on link type, gauge and length. Set them and the studio weighs the chain per karat at today's spot, then adds the making cost for the link style.
The numbers that matter
- Weight
- A 50 cm 3 mm curb chain in 18K weighs about 12–15 g; a 2 mm cable about 4–5 g.
- Link types
- Cable and box are light; curb, rope and Figaro are heavier for the same width; solid vs hollow halves the weight and the price.
- Karat
- Chains are often 14K or 18K; 22K chains are heavier for the same volume and softer.
- Clasp
- Lobster for everyday; box clasp for heavy pieces; both are components in the model.

- Why does weight matter more than anything?
- Metal is most of a chain's value; the gold-price page shows the per-gram price by karat and the model multiplies it by the modelled grams.
- Do you price hollow chains?
- Tell the AI the chain is hollow and the weight is reduced accordingly; the price follows.
